SPONSOR A WHEELCHAIR SHIPMENT

The cost to procure wheelchairs vary depending on the economy. On average, projects start at $7,000 and can cost $10,000 or more. Once you’ve made your gift, we’ll pair it with an appropriate community such as villages, hospitals, other NGO’s, police stations, retirement centers and government offices in Bangalore.

Second hand,top-of-the-line wheelchairs are collected and sent by Joni and Friends International Disability Center in the U.S.A. These wheelchairs are refurbished by the inmates of Bangalore Central Prison to a like-new condition, and distributed locally. Pediatric chairs, sports wheelchairs and various sizes of manual wheelchairs are fitted on each individual to assure the best mobility.

Transportation, whether it be mobility within the home environs, or out on the street moving from one place to another; is an integral factor affecting empowerment for people with disabilities. Without a wheelchair or walker, the person may be confined to a bed, fully dependent on others in the family. If unable to travel a distance, on a scooter or three wheeler– and already intimidated by unsafe bus and train travel; a person will be unable to attend school,  maintain a job, or have the usual opportunities for social interaction.

The mandate is clear for us who serve those whose lives have been affected by physical or mental challenges: inclusion, upliftment and empowerment– so that they might be an asset to our community and nation.
